Time at St Mary’s: 11 Years

Dawn is our very own St Mary’s Nursery chef and has been for the last 11 years. Dawn has always been passionate about cooking throughout her career but has found a real joy is sharing her enthusiasm and love for cooking and all things food with the children at the nursery.

A healthy and balanced diet is essential for children’s development and wellbeing, and this why all the food at St Mary’s Nursery is made fresh daily and on site by Dawn using local suppliers. Dawn said “I want the children to eat healthy and balanced meals so I order all the food fresh using local suppliers to ensure the best quality ingredients are always used. It is really important to me to know exactly what the children are eating so I make everything myself, whether that is baking for snack times or preparing a pasta sauce.”

We have seasonal menus which change throughout the year, these seasonal menus allow the children to be introduced to a variety of new foods and means they are always eating fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables alongside meat, fish and vegetarian options expanding their food experiences. Dawn also loves to host themed days and events which creates an excitement around meal times and makes food fun, these themed days give the children another opportunity to sample foods they might not normally try.

Dawn has held her 5 star hygiene rating since starting at St Mary’s and has also been awarded a Level 2 in Food Allergy Awareness and Level 2 in Food Safety for Early Years, these qualifications demonstrate Dawn’s dedication to making sure the children have the best culinary experience whilst at Nursery.

Dawn concluded “There is nothing I enjoy more than sitting down with the children at meal times watching them enjoy my lovingly home cooked food and collecting their empty plates.”
