National Citizen Service

This October half term, your teenager has the opportunity to participate in the National Citizen Service (NCS.) NCS is a government backed programme that gives 15-17 year olds the chance to take part in adventurous activities, meet new people and develop valuable skills that future employers are looking for. This 11 day programme takes place during the October half term and 4 days on subsequent weekends.

Your young person may have been offered a place in summer but this could be their last chance to take part in the NCS programme, and it is specially designed for Year 12 students.

What happens on NCS?

Your Autumn NCS programme lasts 11 days with breaks in between.  It takes place over half term starting on 19th October and is divided into phases, each designed to develop different skills.
Phase 1 – Adventure
First up, it’s time for a challenge. Living with their team at an outdoor activity centre for 3 nights, they’ll get to know some amazing people and enjoy some quality time away from home.
Phase 2 – Discovery
Next the team develop life skills like confidence, leadership and communication to boost their CV and UCAS personal statement in a variety of workshops.
Phase 3 – Action
It’s time to make their mark! This is where the NCS experience all comes together. The team will deliver a community project about the issues that matter to them. They will be able to plan, fundraise, and make a difference!

Completion of the NCS programme is nationally and formally recognised with Universities, UCAS and with a certificate signed by the Prime Minister. NCS will compliment academic results to support job applications and ensure your young person stands out from the crowd.

How do I confirm their place?

To confirm your young person’s place, please visit and select your school from the drop down menu. The programme is worth £1500 but because of Government support, only costs you an application fee of £25, including all food; accommodation and activities in phase one. NCS reps will be coming in on the week beginning 23rd September sharing more information and making sure your young person does not miss out on NCS this Autumn 2019.
