All aspects of the business world are explored: different types of business, business opportunities, functions in a business such as marketing, accounting and finance, production and human resources. The course also looks at Business Analysis and Strategies and the Changing World of Business.
The variety of courses on offer in the Business department will equip you with the right skills to not only go and start your own business, but also provide the necessary knowledge to take that next step further into higher education. You will be writing answers in essay format so will need a high standard of English.
To be successful in Business Studies you will need to be aware of current business news and keep up what is going on in the business world!
General Entry Requirements:
A Level programmes require a minimum of 2 GCSEs at grade 6 and 3 GCSEs at grade 5.
Subject Specific Requirements:
English Language grade 5, Mathematics grade 5 and Business grade 5 if taken.
How will I be assessed?
The A Level Business Studies course is by Eduqas, part of WJEC and is exam based only.
The subject is studied over two years. Three components are studied and the examinations are taken at the end of the two years:
Business Opportunities and Functions; Business Analysis and Strategy and Business in a Changing World – all examinations are 2 hours 15 minutes in duration.
Where does it lead?
Students can progress to a wide range of university courses such as Business Management, Marketing, Accounting & Finance, Human Resource Management, Law and International Business.
Some students go straight into employment and others have set up their own business!
