You will study the purposes of different businesses, their structure, the effect of the external
environment, and how they need to be dynamic and innovative to survive. You will gain an understanding of how a marketing campaign is developed. You will explore different stages of the
process that a business goes through when developing its campaign and develop your own campaign for a given product/service.
You will examine the marketing aims and objectives for existing products, services and understand the
importance of relevant, valid and appropriate research in relation to customers’ needs and wants. You will also study personal and business finance.
General Entry Requirements:
Vocational programmes require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4.
Subject Specific Requirements:
English Language grade 4.
How will I be assessed?
You will complete 8 units of which 6 are mandatory. (This is equivalent to 2 A levels)
The mandatory units are
• Unit 1 Exploring Business
• Unit 2 Developing a Marketing Campaign
• Unit 3 Personal and Business
• Unit 4 Managing an Event
• Unit 5 International Business
• Unit 6 Principles of Management
For Finance Level 3 you will complete 3 exam-based units in which 2 are multiple choice exams and one written paper. (This is equivalent to 1 A level)
Where does it lead?
The National Diploma is for learners who are interested in learning about the business sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in business-related subjects. It is designed to be taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels.
Students can progress to a wide range of university courses such as Business Management, Marketing, Accounting & Finance, Human Resource Management, Law and International Business.
