Freedom of Information Act

Under the Freedom of Information Act which came into force at the beginning of 2005 every public authority was required to adopt an approved Publication Scheme, the intention of which is to require authorities to make certain kinds of information routinely available to the public.

Approval for all existing schemes will expire on 31 December and a new model publication scheme must be adopted from 1st January 2009.
